FESTIVAL WINNERS

Welcome to the SGFYM syllabus and entry form .

Please note: Entrants may not change their programmed piece of music from that stated on their Entry Form.

In order to be sure that you enter the correct Classes with the correct choice of music please take time to read through all the relevant information. Although entry forms are carefully checked, we cannot guarantee that errors will be detected. Please note that there are some significant amendments this year.

Rule Amendments for 2010

•  Entrants may not, under any circumstances, change their programmed piece of music.

•  Concertos may be performed in all classes, with the exception of Recital classes, provided that they can be played within the time limit for that class. Concertos may not be performed in Recital classes.

•  Competitors are permitted to enter a class in advance of their age. For example, as a junior you can enter the Intermediate or Senior classes. However, should you choose to do this, you cannot then enter the junior class. You are not permitted to enter more than one age category on the same instrument.

•  Non-competitive classes - These are for Competitors who wish to perform in a more relaxed atmosphere. Anyone may take part in the non- competitive classes but they may not then enter in a competitive class on the same instrument, in the same category.

•  The vocal duets class has been extended to include vocal trios.

•  Vocal ensembles should consist of between 4 and 10 members.

•  Instrumental ensembles should consist of a maximum of 10 members.

•  This year, there will be no graded competitive class at junior level. Juniors wishing to compete should enter the open competition. The classes will be sympathetically divided into school years.

•  Graded competitive classes are open to intermediates who have not yet taken Grade 4 of any examining board. Entrants should play either a Grade 1, 2 or 3 piece of music from the current syllabus of any of the following examination boards: ABRSM, Trinity, Guildhall, London . Grade 4 pieces of music and above must be played in the open competitive classes. Please note, you must enter the appropriate age category.

•  Graded competitive classes are open to Seniors who have not yet taken Grade 6 of any examining board. Entrants should play either a Grade 1,2,3,4 or 5 piece of music from the current syllabus of any of the following examination boards: ABRSM, Trinity, Guildhall, London . Grade 6 pieces of music and above must be played in the open competitive classes. Please note, you must enter the appropriate age category.

•  Adult participation - 1 adult is permitted to participate in the non-competitive junior ensemble classes. Non-competitive piano duets may be played with an adult in the junior classes only. Non-competitive vocal ensembles are permitted to have an adult conductor.
